The Day After Thanksgiving Tradition

Every year, the holiday decorations, songs and wrapping paper appear in the stores earlier and earlier, don't they?  It was September when I was in London and Waitrose already had Christmas treats on their shelves!

For my family, the holiday decorations come out the day after Thanksgiving!  Therefore, you can bet tonight, strings of lights will become untangled, garland will wrap the bannister and wreaths will be hung.

So on that note, let's talk holiday decor and in particular, the wreath.  My NYC to London living makes it hard to go all out with the decorations as I'm hardly in one place long enough to do the decorating, let alone enjoy it.  That being said, I never miss out on hanging a wreath one simple glance, it says Holiday!

Enjoy a few of my favorites ...and let me hear from you?  What are your holiday traditions and what's your favorite piece of holiday decor?

A Day of Gratitude

Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow.  ~Edward Sandford Martin

I hope you wake this morning with wonderful smells from the kitchen, excitement as you watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and the lasting memory of what it is like to be loved and to be thankful for those you love....I know that with my blessings below, there is a lot to be thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Skyfall Stag

As someone who has been dating a Bond aficionado for six years now, I am well trained to hit the opening night of the latest Bond adventure.  I must say, I really enjoyed Skyfall...

... shots of Istanbul and London are quite nostalgic...

... and I loved the personal route the plot took as we headed to Bond's childhood home in Scotland.

But as a decorator I have to say, what thrilled me the most as the action plunges into the thick of things was the amazing entrance into Skyfall ....the Stag statue!

The majestic beauty, the stateliness of the country house, left me ready to decorate country retreats!  Fortunately, with the holidays upon us, there are many stag inspired items to get started!

Antler Wreath, Mecox Gardens

Antler Candelabra, Gorsuch

And on a final note, Daniel Craig as Bond ... is he your favorite?  He's a close second to mine, which was Pierce Brosnan ...but whether it be Craig, Brosnan, Moore or Connery, I think they would all do well to be in a UDESHI suit!  Yes, I admit, I have a biased opinion for this London based tailor!

On The Spot: The Gift Wrap Wonderland from The Container Store

Out and about running some errands and I popped into The Container Store looking for silver polish wipes (yes, it's time to get the silver ready)!

While I did not find the towelettes, I did find some of the best holiday wrapping paper!  I'm a bit of a planner, so I grabbed a few rolls to get ready for the gifts that are arriving over the next few weeks ... it is, after all, only two weeks until Thanksgiving and in my family, the tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving!

I've picked a few of my favorite papers, but be sure to take a look at The Gift Wrap Wonderland online!

On The Spot: Graham and Green Ariel Chair

Ariel Rococo Chair

Beefing up on my UK vendors and I came across this fantastic chair from Graham and Green.   The scallop shaped seat has a nice throw back to the art deco style, while the turned spindle legs give it a nice modern twist.  Love it!

Stop In Your Tracks Shutter Detail

Love the privacy shutters have to offer, but don't love all the wood?  Why not upholster them?

Isn't this little corner charming?  The upholstered shutters in combination with the intaglia detail is
Throw in yellow painted Chippendale chairs and a skirted seat cushion and I'm in detail heaven!
