Splendid Staircases

I've been enjoying the coverage in the UK design magazine Living Etc.  Last month, some amazing staircases were featured and I'm sure you'll agree, they make for the perfect transition from space to space!

Happy Weekend!

Beadboard painted black with red bannister ...racy!

If you're like me, you have more books than you know what to do with.  I love this solution!  Build it into the staircase!

Sometimes, a great runner is all you need!

Monochromatic spindles ...fantastic!

Pantone colors on the risers ....clever, clever!

I love the organic (and red) ballustrade on this staircase!

Sheets of steel were used in this staircase ...great use of the unexpected material!

Go Bold or Go Home

Last week we looked at using pops of color to achieve aesthetic emphasis when decorating.  Today, let's go bold with color!  Millwork, lacquered walls or dramatic wallpaper all leave a lasting impression and we have bold color to thank!  What do you think, a pop of color or going bold?

On The Spot: Door Knocker in the West Village

I, like many New Yorkers, took advantage of the fantastic fall weather this past weekend!  As we start off the week, I wanted to share a great door knocker that I came across in the West Village ... I love when the little details make you stop and smile!

Happy Monday!

It's The Little Things

Last week, we looked at a barn door, a butcher block and banding on drapery ... the three B's if you will!

Let's start the weekend off on the right foot with a few more of the little details that make decorating worthwhile!

Happy Friday!

I LOVE the stairs in this residence.  The 90 angle installation, no tread overhang, dark wood stain, zig-zag profile ...very chic!

Corner tubs are things that you just inherit sometimes or are installed out of spatial necessity.  What I love with this one are the vertical strips of marble installed along the face of the tub ...just a little something special to set it apart!  Oh, and what a great cart in the corner to hold the bath accessories!

Its the mix and match that I love with this dining vignette.  In particular, the animal claw/marble topped table mixed with a Danish inspired chair ...just love the subtle juxtaposition!

It's All About the Pop

Emphasis, when decorating, can be achieved in a variety of ways.  One approach that I love is to use a pop of color in an otherwise neutral or subtle color palette.  Take a look below to see what I mean ...

Green Pop with the chair and Pink Pop with the flowers.

Turquoise and Black Pops in the artwork

I just love the Pop of Red in the deck chair in this outdoor seating vignette ....and the swing is pretty awesome too!

Decorating Detective: Trellis Wallpaper

Trellis is no longer a decorative element for the outdoors!  We're seeing it on furniture profiles, metal grillwork and as you can see in this concept image, wallpaper!

When I saw pink trellis, I had to find the source!  If you come across something in a picture that you're looking to source, come decorate online by visiting Linden Blue and bring what inspires you into your home!

It's the Little Things

It's all in the details ...you know it, I know it and we all love when the details make a room and living more interesting and easier!

Enjoy a few of the "little details" that I love when decorating!

Happy Weekend!

I just love this barn door on a sliding rail system.  A great way to gain privacy and room separation if you're in an open loft or small space.

A butcher block cutting board by the sink ... so simple, yet genius!

Look closely in the background of this interior ... the white drapery with black stripe detail, love, love, love!

A Little Bit of This and A Little Bit of That

It's Wednesday, once again, and let's just ease into the last part of the work week with an image I recently came across that has so many elements that I like!  From the gray crown molding, to the tailored cornice/drapery, to the silver glazed ball & claw bathtub, to the gilt mirror over a contemporary vanity, to the toile wallpaper to the herringbone floor.  It's a decorating smorgasboard and I love it!

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

It's a Gold Thing

Spending a little time updating my resources and when I do, I often come across pieces that have fallen off my radar ...and they shouldn't!

Two such items are amazing chests from Lexington Furniture: modern, sleek ....and with gold hardware!  Just love it!

Have a great weekend!

Room With A View: Placement in Front of Windows

At first glance, when you approach space planning, the sentiment is to stay away from the windows.  However, coming right in front of the window can be a marvelous feature to your room!  Enjoy a few of my favorite concepts where windows take center stage!

Dressing tables are dreamy in my opinion and I love the idea of having a view into the outdoors as you get ready to start the day!  Just be sure you have appropriate lighting to avoid bad make-up mistakes!

I just love this nursery!  As you can see, by putting the crib in front of the window, there is plenty of room for a guest bed.  I also love how the ornate window treatment not only deals with light issues, but really gives the feel of a draped bed!

Double the pleasure, double the fun!  What great headboard fabric ...and a Golden Retriever rocker: I'm in love!

The long drapery not only provide a tactile backdrop, but they will certainly help block the windows at bedtime!

What a better place to sit and record your thoughts!

We all know how much I love banquette seating and this banquette in front of the window is fantastic!

A window seat is a fairly common application, but adding drawers into the bench is a great idea for any room!

The Best Little Bistro ...

... table that is!  While doing a bit of updating of my vendor library, I came across these delightful little tables from Worlds Away.  Wouldn't they make the perfect addition to a breakfast room, a college dorm or as a little work table in a playroom?  How about a little sofa table?  The possibilities are endless!
