Go Long

No, we're not tossing the football, we're talking window treatments.  Long drapes serve a multitude of purposes when it comes to interior decorating: visual height, visual softness and acoustics quickly come to mind when I make the decision to go long or short.

Enjoy a few of my favorite concepts when it comes to the shape and details of drapery at the windows!

Coming in with a contrast border and slight bell shape on the corners allows for subtle details when using solid colors.

I like this concept because it illustrates how to use drapery and roman shades together when you have doors and windows.  Again, a solid contrast border now helps to detail a patterned fabric.  This inverted pleat construction ont he valance is one of my most used styles.

The inverted pleated valance gets a little something extra with the decorative tape used to detail the design on the surface of the valance.  Love!

I love the softness of the curves on the valance...quite the effect in this dreamy bedroom!

Love, love, love the shaped edge detail on these panels!

Embroidery or decorative trim can provide a great detail on the leading edges if you're looking for simplicity, yet small amounts of detail.

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

Mirrors don't have to just hang on the wall, they can be the wall!  Whether you accent it with brass details, antique mirror or a piece of art, having this reflective backdrop provides an extra layer of interest to any room.

Painted Effects

Sometimes a wall just needs a little "make-up".  What can provide an extra layer in terms of interior detailing can be faux paneling, decorative florals or antique distressing ...all of which can be achieved with paint and a talented decorative painter!  Enjoy a few of my favorite painted details!

On The Spot Color Inspiration: Lavender and Navy

Knowing that fashion ads can provide color inspiration, I have long been in love with the combination of lavendar and navy ....

The muted elegance of the lilac walls, the navy tufted ottoman and the pop of hot pink in the upholstery ...so chic and so inviting! Oh what started as an ad from Valentino has led to a beautiful room decor!

I've been seeing a lot of cornice details on the window treatments that I really love!  Whether the fabric goes bold or subtle in pattern, the unique shapes to these upholstered window toppers are a great detail!

Headboard Dreams

Headboards are certainly the focal point in most bedrooms, but they don't always have to be a part of the bed.  See below for a few creative solutions for bringing emphasis and detail to the headboard!

The wall can be your friend when trying to bring emphasis to the headboard area.  In this case, the large scale, yet subdued colored wallpaper in conjunction with the candlelight sconce create a dramatic flair to the top of the bed.
I love the use of a folded screen to emphasize color and height!

Spruce up a plain headboard by coming in with a decorative antimacassar (ie fabric  overlay)

I've always loved this concept!  Who says a daybed can't have a headboard?

Nailheads provide a great detail for this "faux headboard" effect

On The Spot: Creative Uses for Wallpaper

Don't want to commit to an entire room of wallpaper?  These two rooms give you some creative alternatives!

Wallpaper along the backside of bookshelves is a great way to bring some visual interest into the millwork.  Love, love, love the marbled wallpaper!

A little hard to see in the picture, but the faux croc wallpaper around the fireplace is a fantastic statement!
