On The Spot: Can Can Chandelier

Trying to find something a bit more edgy, but delicate for a dining room chandelier.  I just came across the Can Can Chandelier designed by Marcel Wanders.  I love the combination of the simplistic streamlined outershell, with the intricate delicacy of the interior.   Available through Flos Lighting.  Enjoy!

Sloped Ceilings

Sometimes, when designing a space, it is simply impossible to avoid sloped ceilings.  One of the most frequent questions I get is how to treat the slope: like the wall or like the ceiling?

While situations vary from case to case, I tend to match the slope to the wall.  Doing so allow the eye to continue to move upwards because in the continuity of the wall finish, so it tends to make the room feel larger and more continuous.

Whether you are using wallpaper, wood paneling or paint, the interiors below help to give a sense of this finishing detail.

Happy decorating!

Bathing Beauties

Just putting together a few bath concepts and wanted to share some of my favorites!

Never underestimate what you can use as a bathmat ...this antique rug provides an interesting contrast to the white marble and helps to tie all the warm tones together.

The antique mirrored doors are FANTASTIC!
I love the use of mirror for the wall behind the marble tub surround ....and you know I love the Chippendale inspired backsplash!

The paneled tub front in conjunction with the shaped backsplash are some great finishing details

Never forget the dressing table!  A great addition to any bathroom.  I also love how this illustrates being able to place this element in front of a window, as often times, walls are occupied by tubs, showers and vanities.

Floors That Inspire

Whether it be a rug or stone inlay, having a bold pattern on the floor is a design element not to be overlooked!  Enjoy a few of my favorite inspirations!

There's such a nice balance between the light tracery of the wallpaper and the boldness of the chevron floor...dramatic, but not overpowering.

A showstopper for sure!  The dramatic floor is equally matched by the vibrant colors.

Going neutral on the walls really helps to make the graphic rug stand out.

Conversely, going neutral with the floor graphic allows the color pop to come with the upholstery and pillows
Just love!

I love this concept and have used it several times.  I think the zig-zag pattern brings in a bit of whimsy to an elegant entryway.

Door Details

Need a little inspiration on how to make a simple door into a spectacular door?  Try a few of these ideas...

If you have a series of doors, ot only can you shape the opening, but adding in the layer of metal grillwork adds another layer of visual interest.

Upholstery AND nailheads?  Love it!

The glass doors on this built-in cabinet help to define the decorative detaisl due to the overall Chippendale inspired shape, as well as the contrast of material and color.

When you upholster walls with fabric, you do have to take in mind the cut edge of the fabric.  Using nailheads to finish it off is a great detail.

Metalwork and mirrors ...Marvelous!
I love the reclaimed antique doors on the sliding mechanism!

This dividing wall is really just a series of sliding doors.  Having the latticework detail helps to give
translucency to these adjoining spaces.
