Blooms Along Park Avenue

"Just living isn't enough," said the butterfly.  "One must also have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower."
                                                                 -Hans Christian Andersen

Park Avenue is in bloom with the temporary art installation by artist Will Ryman.

The installation, entitled "The Roses" features 38 giant rose blossoms, 20 individual rose petals and an assortment of brass insects up and down Park Avenue here in New York City.

The artist, who is known for combining fantasy with reality, used the flora to illustrate New York City's larger than life qualities.  To give you a sense of scale, the sculptures range between 3 and 25 feet high with blossoms that are 5 to 10 feet in diameter.

If you find yourself in the Big Apple before May 31st, a stroll through this "concrete garden" is certainly in order!

At Home in Malibu with Richard Shapiro

You can catch a glimpse of the  fantastic Malibu home of antique dealer and furniture designer Richard Shapiro in the April issue of Architectural Digest...

This is the image that caught my eye ... I love the herringbone courtyard stone floors ...and in turquoise nonetheless!

The mix of the ornate gilt mirror with the more modern windows and streamlined upholstery is fantastic!

I love the colorful, more modern art over the delicate marble mantle!

Love, Love, Love the chandelier!

Incorporate a few pieces from Studiolo, Shapiro's reproduction line, into your interior...

Sorbet Anyone?

This month's Architectural Digest has a lovely project showcasing the collaboration between designer Jeffrey Bilhuber and architect Peter Pennoyer.

I love the soft subtle "sorbet" color palette found throughout the house...

I love the Joan Mitchell painting above the sofa as a main focal point!

A creative window treatment solution when you have a curved "Palladian window" flanked by shorter windows.

The brilliant Chinese Red, in collaboration with the Sky Blue and Robin's Egg blue makes this seating area so cozy!

The "Paul Smith" inspired wall treatment is a nice complement to the visual presence of the black door.

I love the layering of patterns found in the club chair and the carpet...so fun, yet still relaxing for the bedroom!

Favorite Find Friday: JVB Furniture Collection

JVB Furniture is the furniture collection from South African interior designer Justin Van Breda.  The designer, who served as creative director for Nicholas Haslam, returned to South Africa where he designed and sourced the first collection for JVB.  The collection received the Decorex International Futures of Design Award in 2002 and there are currently showrooms in London, Johannesburg and Capetown.  Below are a few of my favorite pieces!  Enjoy!
