Todd Romano at Home

While working on a project in which navy lacquered walls were a large part of the conceptual development, the New York studio apartment of decorator Todd Romano became the perfect source of inspiration!  Just goes to show that great things do come in small packages!

The King's Speech

Like many of us, I'm busy trying to catch all the films before this Sunday's Oscar show.  The King's Speech was the film of choice last weekend and while being delighted by such an endearing story, my "designer eyes" were also quite busy!

The black and white stone floors of Westminster Abbey have always been one of my favorite eye-catching details...

Paris Ceramics is a great showroom for both antique and new stone floors!

Second, I loved the settee that served as a main piece in Lionel Logue's office (not to mention the great skylight in the space!)

Bring this look to your home with a settee from Louis J. Solomon...

Lastly, the royal family's Sandringham estate is beautiful inside and out!  Once spring arrives, a tour of the grounds is on my list!

Enjoy the Oscars!

Not Your Typical Red, White and Blue

I just love this concept because it's a great illustration on how to slightly tweak a red and blue color palette, so as to avoid looking too Americana!

The pale robin's egg/aqua sofa works so well because there's just enough green in the color to complement the red, but the predominant blue tone makes for an easy transition from the cobalt/navy blue.  When you combine the mix of materials...wood, metal, painted wood ...you easily create an interesting room!

Well done!

Graphic Details on the Floor

Busy working on developing the scheme for a home office. I'm choosing to go a little more bold on the carpet and keep the wall and window details subtle.  The images below provide great visual assistance!

The depth of color on the floor necessitates keeping it light vertically.
Going bold in color and shape is a great detail for kid's bedrooms.

Don't be afraid to layer pattern upon pattern.  The subtle color of Paul Smith's Swirl for The Rug Company works well with the neutral toned damask on the wall.  Add a Chesterfield sofa and you've got a great blend of modern and traditional!

You've got to love Zebra!  Carpet by Stark Carpet.

The Greek Key is a classic motif, but the navy and green palette is a fantastic modern approach.

For the Love of DVF

As we celebrate a day of love, I can't help but share a few of my favorite items from Diane von Furstenberg's new home collection....

All items available at Bloomingdale's....

And while we're talking about love and daydreaming about the spring, let me also show you the summer caftan I am crazy about.  DVF collaborated with the Andy Warhol Foundation and how wonderful the partnership turned out to be!
