Bamboo to Summer

The Metropolitan Museum rooftop has proven to be an exciting place to be this summer with the installation of Big Bambu, by artists Doug and Mike Starn.

The bamboo structure, measuring 100 feet long, 50 feet wide and 50 feet high takes the form of a cresting wave.  With over five thousand interlocking bamboo poles, the sculpture has slowly evolved over the summer, as a team of mountain climbers, in conjunction with the artists change the sculpture, change the piece to imitate the motion and movement a wave takes when approaching the shore.

A perfect installation for the summer!  It is on view until the end of October, so if you are in the area, be sure to take a look.

As we say goodbye to summer, the installation reminded me of a few of my favorite bamboo pieces!
