Thinking great colors? Thinking stylish? Think Ruthie Sommers Interiors

Last weekend, I was asked by one of my former Charlotte Moss interns to write a recommendation for her: she's headed to LA and had a great interview with Ruthie Sommers.  Before I even had a chance to reply, she let me know that she had gotten the job!  What fun to be in LA and what fun to work for Ruthie!

As you can see from some of Ruthie's work below, being a part of stylish interiors is in this young lady's future.... congratulations and have fun!

Have I mentioned how much I love black walls?

Never forget that your fabric can be the focal emphasis...this magenta graphic from Lee Jofa fits the bill perfectly!

Every little girl's (and big girls like me) dream bedroom!

I love the "pops" in this interior ....zebra print, pops of red, mustardy gold chic!

Mad for Manolo

Perhaps it's because I'm daydreaming about my next night out, perhaps it's because I'm pre-ordering other books from Amazon.....or perhaps, I think these shoes are simply a delight and a magnificent showcase of artistic craftsmanship and beauty....whatever my reason, I can't wait for the release of Manolo's New Shoes in October.

The book serves as a follow up companion to Manolo Blahnik Drawings and showcases watercolor drawings of new shoe designs.  Andre Leon Talley says it best when speaking about the show designer..." He captures the most powerful of emotions: desire."

I'm headed to London in a few weeks and I think the temporary showcase of Blahnik designs for the Liberty department store is the perfect way to satisfy my daydreams until the book arrives!

Fortunately, there are a few souvenirs from the exhibition that will be the perfect jump start to my Christmas shopping!

Sending you off into the weekend with an interior I simply love, The Wolseley restaurant in London...

...the inlay stone floor, the vaulted ceilings, the use of black lacquer and antique brass ....afternoon tea has never been so enjoyable!

Grace Kelly, A Style Icon

While at the Victoria and Albert Museum last May, I couldn't help but pop into the temporary exhibit, Grace Kelly: A Style Icon...okay, let's be honest, I didn't just pop in, I made a bee-line for it!

We're all certainly familiar with Grace's presence in our history as both an actress and as a princess.

My all time favorite wedding dress!

Throughout her life, one thing is certainly undeniable, she was also a presence within the fashion world and this exhibit is a nice stroll through the history of Grace's life through fashion.  The colors, the details, the silhouettes all speak to the elegance for which she is famous for...

....and certainly, the Hermes bag named in her honor, the Kelly bag, is a must have for any season!

While the daydreamer in me was certainly having fun walking amongst what is essentially Grace's closet, I do find that a nice way to capture memorable fashion within my projects is to create a collection of fashion photography.  Dressing rooms, powder rooms, and quite honestly any prime focal point is a great place to capture a moment in time... and if your "thing" is fashion, then what better way to accentuate your interiors than with a collection of fashion photography!

When I need good fashion photography, there is one stop in New York and that is Staley Wise Gallery.

The collection of Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, and Louise Dahl-Wolfe (just to name a few) allows for amazing photography!  Here are a few of my favorites!

Louise Dahl-Wolfe, Dior Ballgown, 1950

Louise Dahl-Wolfe, Suzy Parker in Balenciago by the Seine, 1953

Melvin Sokolsky, Saint Germaine Street, Paris, 1963

Melvin Sokolsky, Over New York, 1963

Osman Yousefzada

As fashion week comes to a close in New York, I can't help but be reminded of the Osman Yousefzada show I attended in London last May at the Victoria and Albert Museum, as part of their Fashion in Motion series.

Osman, born in the UK to Afghan parents, was inspired from an early age by his mother's dress making business.  His interest in fashion led him to study at Central Saint Martins in London and Osman was ultimately nominated for Designer of the Year in 2007.

Osman's work has also been showcased in the windows of Didier Ludot's Palais Royal Boutique in Paris.

Certainly a designer to watch!

And of course, the designer in me was well at work!  The
Chihuly chandelier in the entry rotunda at the Victoria and Albert Museum is amazing!  I love the contrast between the colorful "modern" look of glass against the more traditional moldings within the dome.....

Brunschwig & Fils Showroom and Ikat!

This was certainly a resourcing week for LHI and while at the Brunschwig et Fils showroom at the D and D building, was a wonderful opportunity to play I Spy Ikat!

Pillows are available for purchase, as are lengths of fabric.  Just love it!  The Mrs. MacDougall line of furniture is having a 50% off sale starting Monday, so get those wish lists ready!

As a follow up to previous posts, look at the great Suzani fabric on a the showroom sofa...

... and this fantastic bamboo wallpaper at the Quadrille showroom!

Have a great weekend!

Ralph Lauren Home Fall Collection

As some of you may recall, last February I was able to attend the home collection preview at the Ralph Lauren loft showroom in Chelsea.

The collections are beautiful, with "The Heiress" offering a soft romantic bohemian aesthetic....

...the Upper Fifth collection, which offers a luxurious line of bedding...

... and the Brook Street collection, which is so perfect for the gentlemen clients in my portfolio!

A couple of pieces really stood out as my favorites...

The Heiress Bed

The Brook Street Dining Chair

.....and The Brook Street Desk is already on order for one of my projects!
